What is it?
This is the full diagnosis. I read first as a reader, letting the book do what it wants to do, then go back through as an editor, turning what I felt into diagnoses I can anchor to the page.
What comes back is a full editorial letter of ten-plus pages covering the questions a developmental read exists to answer. Does the plot hold? Do the character arcs track, and does every major decision follow from who that person is? Is the pacing serving the emotion or outrunning it? Does the ending pay off what the opening promised? Where does the reader’s belief bend, and where does it break?
The letter ends with what most editorial letters leave out: a ranked revision plan: which fixes move the book most, sequenced so you never polish a scene you’re about to cut.
